Review: 2010 Amana Colonies Marble Show

Once again, collectors from over 25 states assembled in Amana for the 33rd annual show. By Wednesday of show week, rooms were full at the Clarion Inn and trading was active. The continued economic caution prompted more people to look at first, and then decide on purchases by the Saturday show.

Friday's banquet featured an Iowa trivia theme and a very interesting talk on carpet bowls by Paul Baumann and Roger Matile. Thanks again to Kris and Mike Cosentino for their excellent help at banquet time!

The Saturday show brought 200 collectors to view and buy marbles from the 45 tables. Exhibitors from 19 different states had marbles for sale that day. There were seven contemporary marble makers represented. The crowd was steady and many old friendships were renewed during the course of the show!

Review: 2009 Amana Colonies Marble Show

The 32nd Annual Amana Colonies Marble Show was held on June 5 and 6, 2009 at the Clarion Inn (formerly Holiday Inn) on Interstate 80, Exit 225 in east central Iowa. Another hectic week of room hopping preceded the official show events and new and old friendships were shared.

On Friday, June 5, the banquet featured many door prizes, a Disney sing-along program, and a speech about National Marble Tournaments by Craig Snider of Kansas. Thanks also to Kris and Mike Cosentino for their help on the program!

Saturday’s show featured 46 tables of marbles and a steady crowd of lookers and buyers. Show attendance was up from last year, but most buyers were more cautious, due to the current U.S. economy. Buyers who waited until the show’s end found some super deals, however!

Looking forward to June 4 and 5, 2010, the show will be held at the same location. Our banquet speaker will be noted author and collector Paul Baumann. Make plans now to attend and contact Gary Huxford (319-642-3891) for tables. Tables are 6 to 8 feet long and cloths are provided. Cost is $45.
