The 2005 Amana Marble Meet was held at the Amana, Iowa Holiday Inn on June 4 and 5, 2005. A sizeable group of collectors arrived by Wednesday before the meet began, and by Thursday, another 80 rooms were filled with marble people! Fifty additional rooms were occupied on Friday, so that by the start of the meet on Saturday, all 150 rooms at the Holiday Inn were sold out to collectors. Many stayed at other motels in the area.
The seminar on Saturday featured Del Morgan with a presentation on "Shipwreck Marbles." This was followed by reports on marble shows around the country by representatives from each show.
The banquet on Saturday evening was a lively event, with a salute to the explorations of Lewis and Clark, and some wonderful soprano saxophone work by Mike Cosentino. Many door prizes were awarded. Banquet attendees were again very generous, provideing items for door prizes from their states.
The actual show on Sunday took place from 9 am to 2 pm. Over forty tables were covered with marbles of all types, and the approximately 200 collectors who came through the door were not disappointed!
Buying, selling, and trading were brisk throughout the week. It is hoped that many will attend the 2006 show and plan for a table in advance! Contact Gary Huxford at 319-642-3891 for more information
